Seashore Science - The science behind our creeks, lagoons and coast
Join us to find out what you can do to about Microplastics, the ubiquitous pollutant found in our creeks, lagoons, beaches and in the deeper waters of the oceans. Talks by ecotoxicologist Dr Scott Willson from Macquarie University and marine mammal expert Dr Michelle Blewitt from the Coastal Environment Center.
Talk 1 - Microplastics: More than a drop in the ocean Ecotoxicologist Dr Scott Wilson from Macquarie University will discuss problem of microplastics in our environment. He will focus on the types, sources, and importance of reporting them and how the community can actively take part in a new monitoring program.
Talk 2 - Drowning in Debris – Microplastics and Marine Mammals Dr Michelle Blewitt from the Coastal Environment Center is an expert on marine mammals. Her talk is about how plastic that makes its way into the ocean can harm some of our most iconic and beloved marine creatures and how we can prevent this.
