Mindfulness Meditation: Fire and Sound
Join us again for a workshop in mindfulness meditation lead by our very own Mr. Max! Expanding on the workshop from last term, the workshop will briefly revisit theory on what mindfulness is and how it can help you in your every day life.
Instead of all still, quiet meditations, this workshop will explore into the senses, harping on sight and sound. Specifically, the sounds of large taiko drums and percussion, as well as the sights and warmth of fire.
We will begin with a recap on mindfulness theory: what it is, how it affects the mind and body, what it can do for your thoughts, feelings, emotions (have you ever thought of the difference between a feeling and an emotion?!). Next, we'll do a basic guided meditation centered on breathing, and then we'll dive right into the senses:
First comes sound. We will utilize taiko drums, bells, shakers, and other percussion toys to explore the concept of space.
Next comes sight. We will harness fire to explore the concept of shifting focus.
After each meditation, we will break out into a small discussion and share our experiences. This event is guaranteed to have you leaving feeling lighter and more in tune with your mind and body. Check it out!
