Four Women (I do belong)
Four Women (I do belong) is curated by Djon Mundine and is inspired by the 1966 Nina Simone song Four Women, which speaks of the perception of Blak women and their inherent pain and strength. Blak women – all women are of differing personalities, ages, experiences and roles, remain resilient, creative, and vocal. In what could be seen as forms of stereotypes, these women remainople we know.
The exhibtion brings together work by four Aboriginal and four non-Aborignal artists – all with a connection to the Northern Rivers. The intent of the exhibition is to evoke the atmosphere of the Northern Rivers region, one that speaks of a deep and metaphysical connection to the land and the modern history and environment.
