Prior to European contact, Aboriginal communities had established a complex web of trade routes all over the continent. Trade required people from different areas and different cultures to respect each other’s’ rights, boundaries and cultural differences.
Dreaming Trails is a partnership between Lismore Regional Gallery and Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre, and has been curated by Gumbaynggirr cultural worker, Alison Williams.
A small group of Bundjalung, Yaegal and Gumbaynggirr artists visited a range of significant sites, consulted with elders/knowledge holders and used as inspiration objects from the Lismore Regional Museum and Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre to create new works based on the notion of trade between these nations.
