Melbourne Swordplay Guild
Melbourne Swordplay Guild was started in 2003 when the Australian College of Arms moved from Melbourne to Brisbane.
Many of the old ACA members wanted to continue Historical European Martial Arts in Melbourne and we started Melbourne Swordplay Guild. The attitude in the early days was one of enjoying what we do and not taking ourselves too seriously.
Melbourne Swordplay Guild runs classes on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Thursday Flower of Battle
Starting at 7.30pm, classes are composed of two 45 minute sessions within a two hour class, finishing at 9.30pm.
With this class a student will gain a understanding of the core movements and plays/techniques inherent to MSG’s interpretation of Fiore de’i Liberi‘s, The Flower of Battle.
Saturday Art of Fighting
Running from 11am until 1pm, Saturday classes focus on the teachings from the tradition of Johannes Liechtenauer, in particular those from the Codex Danzig (Codex 44.A.8).
Focusing primarily on the use of the Longsword, in particular its use in Bloßfechten (unarmored fighting) the Saturday classes incorporate elements of physical conditioning, principles of fencing with the longsword and instruction on the meisterhau (master cuts).
