South Coast Area Highlights & Essential Things To Do
Discover Your Local South Coast Area
If you're tired of the bustle of the city and are looking for places to go to escape the noise, to the south of Sydney lies a chain of rugged coastland, virtually untouched since man first stepped foot on the sands. The South Coast is one of Australia's many natural miracles, with a stunning variety of different topographies guiding you on your journey down. Delicate sands bordering dense woodlands are sheltered by rocky ranges on the fringe of rural farm properties.
The Illawarra is your first stop, with its panoramic lookouts reaching over the sparkling beaches of Wollongong. If you're looking for things to do, make your way towards the beach and take a dip in the Pacific Ocean. The abundance of malls and arcades bordering the beach are perfect for those who've worked up an appetite in the surf, and a huge number of local events and activities are just a walk away. A bit further inland is Bowral, a historic gentry town full of estates and manor houses, as well as a renowned country market that will change your perspective on fresh food. You may even awaken the dormant artist within whilst browsing through the jewellery, arts and crafts, period furniture and general bric-a-brac.
After the quintessential Australian wilderness of the Shoalhaven comes the Mollymook and Ulladulla districts, a microcosm of artisan villages with a strong cafe culture. The beachside town of Mollymook is perfect for a round of golf, browsing the village markets, and a fresh seafood lunch at the exclusive Bannister's. Jump in the car for twenty minutes and you'll end up in Milton, a historic gem nestled northwest of Mollymook Beach. Cluttered bookshops, galleries, and a candid ghost tour expose the history that hides behind this charming village's facade.
Thread your way between Jervis Bay and Bateman's Bay via national parks and leafy trails, then make your way down the Clyde and Sapphire Coasts. Round up the trip in the misty town of Bega with a piece of cheddar cheese to check out some of the local attractions, such as taking a wander through the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre.
One of Australia's natural phenomena almost untouched by civilisation - come and be the first of your friends to reach out and experience it.
