South Australia Highlights & Essential Things To Do
Discover Your Local South Australia Area
The only state that shares a border with every other mainland state including the Northern Territory, a landscape riddled with desert and the outback in the north, and a thriving valley of wineries to the south, South Australia is a culturally and historically unique state with a vibrant and decadent division of temperatures, climates, geography and demographics. There are hundreds of things to see and do within the Festival State, so don’t shy away from this unique and fascinating place.
The largest salt lake and lowest point in Australia, Lake Eyre is a majestic and magnificent wonder that calls South Australia home. Symbolic of the harsh conditions of the outback, it is an immensely powerful throwback to the rough and rugged terrain of rural Australia, second only to the merciless Simpson Desert . Photography buffs would be mad to miss out on experiencing the South Australian outback.
Head to the coast and away from the desert plains towards the beautiful Barossa Valley , South Australia’s wine country, home to wineries and all things grape! Barely an hour out of Adelaide, this beautiful and luxurious region is globally renowned for producing some of the most amazing wines, delicious cheeses and stunning craft beers. The secret of the Barossa Valley is that it’s not just for the borderline alcoholics or “enthusiasts” as they like to say, there are things to do for the whole family with an abundance of beautiful picnic spots and intricate cycling and hiking tracks.
Beginning at Port Augusta further along the coastline, all the way down to Mount Gambier near the Victorian border, you’ll find pockets of heavily urbanised areas, with lots of activities, events and hundreds of local attractions. The regions around Adelaide include the Adelaide Hills , the Riverland Region and the Murraylands which denotes the townships and centres that are based along the Murray River. To discover some picturesque localities and exquisite tourist attractions, be sure to visit these regions. After all, most of them produce wine so at the very least, you can drink the night away and pretend to be classy!
