The Ritz Cinema, located at iconic, ‘The Spot’, in Randwick - 20 minutes from the city by bus, was built in 1937 and is one of three remaining functioning cinemas in New South Wales built in the popular art deco style of the 1920’s and 30’s.
The Ritz was given a conservation order by the Minister of Planning in 1993 to prevent demolition of the site, and in the late 90’s was refurbished with additional cinemas in order to compete with other, larger venues. The cinema is now owned by the Hoyts group and displays a regular program of blockbuster films.
