Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most iconic landmarks in Sydney, and is located on Bennelong Point overlooking Sydney Harbour, around the corner from Circular Quay.
The building was opened in 1973 after a world-wide competition for its design was won by architect Jorn Utzon, and is built to look like the array of several orange slices. The Opera House host over 1,500 performances annually attended by roughly 1.2 million people, and is home to resident companies Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Guided tours of the several performance spaces are attended by 300, 000 people each year and it’s estimated that 7 million tourists visit the site each year.
