The magnificent State Theatre, located on Market Street in Sydney’s CBD is a 2000 seat theatre that regularly hosts dance, music, musical theatre performances and even comedy routines, in what has been appropriately named ‘The Theatre of Dreams’.
The heritage listed building was opened in 1929 and features Gothic, Italian and Art deco elements in its interior design and architecture, as well as palatial artwork and fixtures from significant Australian artists and the second-largest crystal chandelier on Earth – the Koh-I-Nor, which weighs over 4 tonnes.
The Theatre’s program features a plethora of internationally renowned performances and is soon to feature the Imperial Russian Ballet as well as comedians Arj Barker and Carl Barron.

The State Theatre is a 10 minute walk from both Town Hall and St James train stations. Bus routes 412, 412, 431, 433, 436, 438, 439, 440, 470, 501, 555, E86, E88 and E89 stop on George St near Market St, around the corner from the venue. Bus routes 441, 620, 620N, 620X, 642, 642X, 650, 650X and 652X stop on Market St near Pitt St, a 2 minute walk from the venue.
