Established as a branch of the Royal Mint in London, the Perth Mint opened in 1899 to produce currency to be used in the colony. It is currently Australia’s oldest operating mint and holds the world record for creating the world’s most valuable gold coin. The Perth Mint holds guided talks and gold pouring demonstrations daily where visitors can witness the creation of solid gold bars. The Mint also exhibits the world’s largest gold bars and Australia’s largest collection of natural nuggets.
