Parramatta stadium is a rectangular, grassed sporting venue located 25 km west of Sydney CBD. The stadium is home to the Parramatta Eels and Western Sydney Wanderers who play in the NRL and A-League, respectively. The stadium was opened in 1986 and has since enjoyed a reputation of being one of the most atmospheric and intimate venues for watching a sporting match.
The arrival of the Western Sydney Wanderers and their large crowds has sparked a rekindled interest in the stadium. Because of the demand an upgrade of the ground has been scheduled bringing the capacity up from 20,000 to 24,000. This upgrade will see the extension of the northern and southern ends.
