Echo Point is the most popular place to view the incredible vastness and beauty of the Blue Mountains. With a state-of-the-art lookout which takes you over the cliff face, you feel as if you are suspended hundreds of metres over the forest floor. At Echo Point you can view the famous Three Sisters, three huge rock formations which were, in Aboriginal folklore, said to be three Sisters who were turned to stone. From Echo Point you can take five to ten minute walk down to the top of the Giant Staircase and cross the small footbridge to the first ‘sister’. Each sister sits almost one kilometre above the forest floor, so looking down from the footbridge is not for the faint of heart.
Echo Point is also the end point of the Scenic Walkway through the forest from the Scenic World on the other side of the valley. This brilliant walk through the Mountains takes you through trails of boardwalks and lookouts.
At night, flood lights light up the Three Sisters from underneath to give a spectacular view of the natural monuments under the cover of darkness. In winter, Echo Point is sometimes covered with thick fog and the valley is given a different yet beautiful aspect.
Make sure you yell out your name, or a greeting, at the edge of the Echo Point lookout to hear your voice reverberate around the vast mountains. You may also be able to hear calls from the other side of the valley if you are lucky.
