AAMI Stadium is not too be confused with the rectangular stadium in Victoria of the same name. The venue situated in West lakes, Adelaide is the home of Australian Rules football in South Australia. Both AFL clubs in the State, Port Adelaide Power and Adelaide Crows, call the circular stadium home and have so for over 20 years. Built in 1972 under the name Football Park, the venue can hold up to 51,224 people and is the biggest sporting venue in South Australia. AAMI specialises in Australian Rules football matches but it also hosts musical performances, the most notable being ABBA.
Like its companion in the city, Adelaide Oval, AAMI Stadium was due for re-development. Since the announcement the Government has announced that instead of a development the stadium will be demolished and replaced with a small football park surrounded by residential developments. This means the venue will host its last event in earl 2014. Be sure to get down to a game before the venue is lost to history.
