North Perth Region Highlights & Essential Things To Do
Discover Your Local North Perth Area
Drive up the coast from Fremantle, and you will find natural sandy beaches, enhanced by the charm of the Australian bushland. Expansive parks, bays and new development are among the drawcards of Perth's North. The region has a unique atmosphere, coloured by its natural surroundings.
Ocean Reef, part of the wide area of the City of Joondalup, is named for the stretch of reef visible from the mainland. Cycling and walking paths run between the water and the hinterland with Beaumaris Beach being a great place for a picnic or BBQ. Things to do include visiting the harbour, a popular visitor's spot, and development is on the way to create the Ocean Reef Marina, a proposed hub for shopping, vacationing and tourist attractions.
Joondalup itself covers much of Perth's north, and in addition to Beaumaris, contains a number of other well-kept and welcoming beaches. Sorrento and Hillary's Beach are some of the top places to go. At Hillary's Boat Harbour a variety of shops and restaurants are popular with visitors looking for a place to eat, relax and experience this growing and vibrant region of Western Australia. Moving inland, Neil Hawkins' Reserve has long been a prominent family friendly park, sitting on the shores of Lake Joondalup.
The centre of Joondalup contains a large shopping district with cinemas and local businesses built among tree lined streets. In nearby Wanneroo, the Barbagallo Raceway is the home of WA's motor racing and it hosts the V8 Supercars. Regular events at Barbagallo bring crowds of sports fans and auto enthusiasts into Wanneroo throughout the year.
Moving into the outskirts of the region, there are many suburbs in the early stages of development that are a sign of Perth's expansion. Among these is Banksia Grove, further north from Joondalup. With projects underway and continuous moves towards improvement, the north of Perth is an area on the rise.
The combination of North Perth's bushland with its gorgeous and expansive beaches makes the area a little known but exciting part of WA. A train trip from the centre of Perth will have you at Joondalup station in half an hour and ready to enjoy all the remarkable activities the north has to offer.
