Australia’s iconic and internationally acclaimed short film festival returns!
Tropfest Australia is a free, outdoor festival that combines a day of celebrating the medium of film and music with the announcement of the winner of the Tropfest short film competition live at night. It boasts the distinction of being the largest short film festival in the world and attracts more than 150,000 people on a single night.
The day festival features an assortment of live music and entertainment, red carpet arrivals and film screenings, along with public catering and bars.
The Tropfest short film competition requires all entrants incorporate the ‘Tropfest Signature Item’ (TSI) into their films.
Distinction in the competition is widely considered a ticket into a successful career in film or TV. It has been judged in the past by acclaimed industry and celebrity judges, including Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Samuel L. Jackson, Baz Luhrmann and many others.
Other competitions taking place during Tropfest include:
• The DSLR Film Category requires entrants to film using a DSLR camera
• Trop Jr , reserved for entrants who are 15 years and under.
• APRA Tropscore challenges entrants to create a musical score for a designated film clip. The winning artist or band will have the chance to perform live during the Festival in Sydney
• Tropscore Jr will be open to entrants 15 years and younger.
Don’t forget to check out Tropfest Roughcut for insider presentations about all aspects of the industry.
The Festival is broadcast live on big screens in several Australian cities, including Canberra, Surfers Paradise, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Wollongong.
