Information
  • Description

    Presented by Sydney Children's Festival

The bestselling author of What's Happening to our Girls and What's Happening to our Boys will facilitate an insightful and engaging discussion for parents focussing on the social challenges that our children face in the 21st century.

You’ll discuss relevant questions including: Why do children pay more attention to their peers than parents? What makes brand name clothes and looking sexy so appealing? Why are children drawn to ‘out there’ behaviour, and why are depression, cutting, eating disorders and drinking on the rise?

    About Maggie Hamilton

Maggie Hamilton is a writer, teacher and publisher. Maggie's many books include What Men Don’t Talk About And Why, based on her research into the lives of real men and boys and how they see their world. What’s Happening to Our Girls? based on two years' research into the twenty-first century lives of girls, presents an insider's view into the challenges girls are currently experiencing, and the solutions to these issues. In her newly completed book What’s Happening to Our Boys? Maggie puts the lives of our boys under the microscope, uncovering the issues they struggle with, and how best they can be supported.

    About the Festival:

It is a festival that emphasizes participation, focusing on the Child as the Artist. The program is a mixture of performance, workshops, exhibitions, tangible experiences and special events lead by experienced professional practitioners, artists and companies.

The focus at Sydney Children’s Festival is on encouraging community participation, and inspiring creativity and imagination in children (and the child in all of us!). The Festival nurtures a love for the arts amongst Australia’s youngest generation of artists, patrons and cultural contributors.

It is designed for all kids up to the age of 12 to participate in with their families. Everyone can take part in theatre, circus, visual arts, storytelling, music, film, creative sustainability and dance activities.

Over 75% of the entire program is FREE, all tickets are classed as low cost.

Our aim is to grow the Sydney Children’s Festival to become an iconic event, a permanent fixture on every Sydney family’s social calendar, and it will be an event that Sydney kids love, and look forward to all year around.
