Stephen Hough Plays Tchaikovsky
Melbourne audiences always welcome return visits by pianist Stephen Hough, and dynamic American maestro Andrew Litton, too, is an MSO favourite.
Tchaikovsky’s lyrical Second Piano Concerto is the heart of this program, with its haunting central section in which the piano joins solo violin and cello for music of exceptional tenderness. The final work is Prokofiev’s reflective and beguiling symphony, paying homage to the spirit of childhood in music of ethereal beauty.
