Margaret Olley and art: panel talk

Edmund Capon, Cressida Campbell, Christine France and Philip Bacon (chair) take part in an intimate discussion on the enduring legacy of one of Australia’s greatest artists.

About the Artists:

Philip Bacon was Margaret Olley’s art dealer for nearly 40 years. In 1990 Philip was appointed a trustee and adviser to the Margaret Olley Trust and is now an executor of her estate. Philip Bacon Galleries was established in Brisbane in 1974. Philip joined the board of Opera Australia in 1994, was a member of the council of the National Gallery of Australia from 1996 to 2003 and has been a trustee of the Gordon Darling Foundation since 2000.

Painter and printmaker Cressida Campbell was born in Sydney in 1960. After attending East Sydney Technical College, she studied at the Yoshida Hanga Academy in Tokyo in 1980. Renowned for her woodcuts and screenprints, Cressida’s work has featured in two of the Margaret Olley Favourites exhibitions

Christine France is an independent art writer and curator. Christine majored in fine arts at the University of Sydney and has worked as a part-time tutor in contemporary art at the University of New South Wales. Christine has curated a number of exhibitions for regional galleries. In 1988 she curated a Margaret Olley retrospective and in 2000 curated Favourites: Margaret Olley and Barry Humphries choose from public and private collections, with both exhibitions held at the S H Ervin Gallery in Sydney.
