Redland Shire Region Highlights & Essential Things To Do
Discover Your Local Redland Shire Area
Located in south-east Queensland, Redland Shire is nestled between the major cities of Brisbane to the north, Logan to the west, and the Gold Coast to the south. Spread along the southern coast of Moreton Bay, the Redland Shire is a haven of attractions to indulge in nature-based activities, witness spectacular scenery, escape to its island retreats and engage in community-based arts and events fanfare.
There exists a vast array of road, rail and ferry networks that makes it convenient to travel within the far-reaching Redland Shire. The main urban places to go are Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point but many escape to the archipelagos of Moreton Bay. These include larger North Stradbroke Island, Coochiemudlo off Victoria Point as well as the cluster of Southern Moreton Bay Islands of Karragarra, Lamb, Russell and Macleay.
Within the major urban suburbs, there are a few outstanding events held annually. Indigi Day Out is the leading environmental event in the Redland Shire hosted by the IndigiScapes Centre in Capalaba. Over the duration of two days, set in the environmental surrounds of beautiful botanic gardens, Indigi Day Out is filled with displays and workshops, native animals, informative tours, arts and crafts, kids' activities, music and food. As a bonus, the Redlands Folk Music Festival is also held at the same time, with concerts and music workshops offered on the weekend. Another popular festivity is Christmas by Starlight. It is Redland's largest free event, celebrating the incoming festive season for the Redlands community. With many performances lined up every year, it promises to be a joyous occasion for young and old!
And for those that desire to jetty off, there are always breathtaking island retreats along Moreton Bay. North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie, is one of the most popular destinations to satisfy any wanderlust. It stands as one of the world's largest sand islands. There are three main communities on North Stradbroke Island including Amity Point, Dunwich and Point Lookout. On this tripartite of island escapes, there are a host of tropical resorts. Take in the awe-inspiring scenic views and settle into white, sandy beaches.
Ensconced within the sub-tropical island of Coochiemudlo Island, or Coochie, is the Coochie Island Craft Market. Held on a regular basis, the talents of the island's many artists and local craftspeople go on display. You may even find some of the artworks on exhibition at one of the island's galleries! Check out what's on in these cultural hubs.
Wander the surrounds of the peaceful Redland Shire region and immerse yourself with its stunning views of secluded beaches and calm sparkling waters - a veritable paradise!
