The Unforgettable Great Southern Rail
Looking for a way to travel and explore our great and vast sunburnt country in style, comfort, and ease? The Great Southern Rail provides three railway services tailored to unconventional travellers desiring to commute from one major city to the next. These great train journeys exist as another way to trans-continentally witness Australia in all its splendour, via a more scenic and leisurely route.
The Ghan offers the opportunity to observe the changing landscape from metropolis to outback traversing across the centre of Australia between Adelaide, Alice Springs and Darwin. From one pit stop to another, there are also optional whistle stops and off-train tours at key destinations available. From camel riding at the Kata Tjuta National Park World Heritage Area, to soaring high over the rugged MacDonnell Ranges in a hot air balloon flight with champagne to greet you, to exclusively dining to an Aussie BBQ with the Uluru sunset amongst the diverse range of tours available. These tours may last a few hours to a few days. Whilst travelling on the Ghan, there is a range of accommodation packages and cafes, lounges, restaurants to choose from. Fares range from $862 to $3390 for a standard adult one way ticket.
The Indian Pacific
The Indian Pacific allows you to travel between Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Enjoy resplendent views along to your destination between these major cities. There are also optional whistle stops and off-train tours at key destinations available. You can explore Kangaroo Island, indulge in a dolphin cruise, wander through Silverton’s ghost town, take a 10 night cruise as part of the Kimberley Expedition from Darwin to Broome, have a Margaret River Wine experience, discover the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves, take a guided tour of the Parliament House with an opportunity to see the houses of parliament in session amongst the plethora of delightful tours. And like the other train services, luxurious accommodation and a delectable menu is available to choose from. It’s even possible to take your car with you! Fares range from $868 to $ 3890 for a standard adult one way ticket.
The Overland cruises between Melbourne and Adelaide, passing through many classic Australian country towns from Murray Bridge to Geelong. Besides the comfort of travelling and the opportunity to meet fellow travellers, the optional off-train tour itinerary to satisfy any wanderlust can include dining in the infamous Colonial Tramcar Restaurants of Melbourne, waltzing through the Yarra Valley and its wineries, driving along the Great Ocean Road coastline to Apollo Bay and frolicking in the white, sandy beaches that it offers, going to the fishing village of Port Campbell for afternoon tea amongst other tour experiences. This train journey also comes with accommodation options and a variety of dining selections to choose from. Fares range from $87 to $166 for a standard adult one way ticket.
