Tastiest Craft Beer Taps Western Australia
There is a quiet revolution happening in Australia. Hidden in converted barns, warehouses and the occasional back shed, a dedicated band of mad scientists work to better improve the humble brew, and while malts, hops and yeast are fairly consistent across most of the recipes, that’s where the similarities stop. Ales, lagers and stouts consisting of nuts, chilli, camomile, syrups and other strange additions are being created and it’s great news for drinkers.
Craft Beer has seen a rise in global popularity over the last ten years with people demanding more from their pints. Small and not-so-small breweries have responded by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in a bottle. Competitions have revealed die-hard legions of fans; they focus on their local audience, they host events and tastings, you can see the process being created and you get to speak to the people producing the product.
Here are three of Western Australia's standout local breweries:
Little Creatures - Fremantle
A long-time fixture of the West Coast, Little Creatures is fast turning heads on the opposite side of the country. Featuring a large scale operation with Restaurant/Pizza Oven and Bar in Fremantle, they’ve also recently opened a venue in Melbourne. Serving up the long admired #3 Pale Ale, this venue featured in the Top 100 a few times for their high standards and rare labels.
Mash Brewing Company - Swan Valley
Mash Brewing deserves a special mention for its comfort and popular appeal to West coast locals. Now featuring three locations in Swan Valley, Bunbury and Rockingham, Mash ensures that the beer flows freely and the food is excellent. Popular staples include their Freo Doctor and Pale Ale, while those with a more adventurous palate should try the Challenger! Opening times vary between venues but all information is available on their website.
Feral Brewing Company - Swan Valley
Taking the top gong in the Hottest 100 Beers is no easy feat with hundreds of different palates and personal preferences in the voting pool. Once again the thirsty crowd voted their Hop Hog into the #1 spot. This brew has already won a swag of international awards and cemented Feral’s reputation as one of Australia’s best craft brewers. Their tasting room and restaurant is open every day of the year except Christmas. Any visit to Feral is guaranteed to not be ‘boaring’!
