Brisbane's Best Wine and Cheese Bars
Some may argue that there is nothing better than a good glass of wine with the right food. And what is more perfect than the pairing of wine with cheese? The ultimate combination, wine and cheese have been tantalising our taste buds and bringing out the best in each other for centuries. We’ve picked out the best spots in Brisbane to indulge yourself on both good cheese and good wine!
Attached to the award winning Moo Moo Wine Bar + Grill restaurant, Moobar is the perfect place to sample some of the finest cheese from around the world. With cheddar from England and pecorino from Italy you can send your palette on the trip of a lifetime with this impressive selection. With an extensive list of wines by the glass to match, the bartenders will be more than happy to help you pick that perfect glass of pinot once you’ve chosen your cheese.
A Spanish inspired charcuterie, Gerard’s Bar combines the best selection of dried meats, cheese and drinks. Nestled in a laneway behind James Street, the bar is a stunningly intimate and classic venue. Take a seat anywhere along the bar, pick a glass of wine and have fun tasting a selection of meats and cheese from the extensive bar menu. We suggest trying the aged parmesan with any of the house cured Jamón’s and letting your taste buds go into sensory overload.
Cru is the place to go for any serious wine drinkers. Specialising in a technique called coravin, wine can be served by the glass without removing the cork from the bottle. It may sound strange, but it protects the wine from oxidising and allows it to age naturally. With a speciality coravin wine menu, as well an incredibly large standard wine list, you will be sure to find the perfect glass of wine. And with up to five different cheeses on the cheese plate, you’ll be in heaven!
TOMAHAWK KITCHEN AND BAR
The great thing about Tomahawk is they’ve taken the guesswork out of choosing what to drink with what you eat. Every item on the menu has been paired with both a beer and wine so once you know what to eat, you’ll have your drinks sorted as well. Tomahawk is also known for its baked camembert, a whole wheel of camembert cheese baked until its melting in the middle. For any cheese lovers out there, the camembert is a must try dish!
Café by day, when it hits 3pm Foxy Bean turns into Foxy Drop, a lively and cosy little bar and bistro. With a well selected wine list and a grazing menu to match, this is perfect place to go for after work drinks and nibbles. Sampling some of the country’s finest cheese we advise taking a three cheese selection that comes with all the extras and enjoying a nice glass of red wine while you soak up the ambience and friendly vibe.
