Best Farmers' Markets in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs
Ditch the supermarkets and head into the heart of grocery shopping. Farmer’s markets give the community a chance to get to know the people behind the produce. With so many across Sydney to choose from, here’s just a few gems from the Eastern Suburbs.
The Junction gets a little more hustle and bustle on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during its Village Market. If you like a bargain come in on a Wednesday as it hosts its Deal Day for discounts and freebies. For your organic and free range produce head in on a Thursday and take your pick of meats, fruits, vegetables, eggs and raw honey. Regardless of what day you choose, head in at 9am so you don’t miss out!
If you’re at the beach instead of the Junction, fear not, Bondi Beach has a farmers market all its own. Every Saturday behold all the seasonal produce, jams, seafood and spices that Bondi’s farmers have to offer. The Market also hosts a range of events throughout the year such as recycling challenges and fairs, making every Saturday different from the last.
Thursday at Double Bay will get you more than just a beautiful waterfront view, but access to some delicious and nutritious produce. From 8am to 2pm dig into some gourmet food while the kids enjoy fun-filled activities such as jumping castles and pony rides. Finish off your visit with a fine wine before taking your weeks’ worth of goodies home. These markets will have you coming back week after week!
From 7:30am til 2pm the Kings Cross Organic Markets will give you a reason to be up bright and early on a Saturday. Part of the Organic Food Markets family, the Kings Cross branch is no exception in the organisation’s ideals of delivering top-quality fruit and veg to the public. Located in the heart of Fitzroy Gardens, choose from an array of organic or conventional food products while taking in the gorgeous scenery the park has to offer.
There’s so much more to do at this park than golf and shopping, it’s also host to the bi-weekly Village Markets. On either a Wednesday or Saturday take advantage of their free two hour parking and take a peek at some of Sydney’s finest produce. You can even bring the little ones with you as they’ll be more than entertained with the park’s playground and jumping castle.
